The short version: your voice and your text never leave your Mac. We have no account system, so there is nothing for us to hold. This page explains the few narrow cases where TalkMate or this website does touch data, so you can judge them for yourself.

What the app does with your speech

Recording, transcription and text cleanup all run on your own machine. Audio is held in memory for the length of a dictation and discarded. Transcripts, your Personal Vocabulary and your Voice Shortcuts are stored locally on your Mac, in your user library, and are never uploaded to us.

We cannot read your dictation history. We do not receive it, and there is no server that could store it.

When the app does contact the internet

Being honest about the exceptions matters more than the slogan. There are three:

  • Model downloads. On first run the app fetches its speech and cleanup models. That request reveals your IP address and the app version to whoever serves the file, exactly as any download does. After that the app transcribes offline.
  • Update checks. The app periodically asks gettalkmate.com whether a newer version exists. That request carries your IP address, the current app version and your platform. We use it to serve the right update and nothing else, and we do not build profiles from it.
  • Licence checks. When you activate a licence key, and occasionally afterwards, the app asks gettalkmate.com whether that key is still valid. The request carries the key and your IP address, nothing else. If the check cannot be made — you are offline, or we are — the app keeps working.

None of these requests contain your audio, your transcripts or any identifier we could tie back to you as a person. Update checks can be turned off, and the licence check only exists once you buy.

This website

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies, without fingerprinting and without collecting personal data — which is why you see no cookie banner here. We set no advertising or tracking cookies of any kind, and there are no third-party scripts on these pages — with one exception: the checkout page loads Paddle's payment script, because Paddle takes the payment.

Fonts are served from this domain rather than a font CDN, so loading a page makes no request to another company.

Buying a licence

Payments are handled by Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), which acts as the merchant of record and is the seller on your invoice. Paddle collects the information it needs to take payment and meet tax obligations — name, email address, billing country and payment details. That data goes to Paddle, not to us. We never see your card number.

From Paddle we receive limited order information: the transaction and customer references for your purchase. We use them to generate your licence key, to support you if something goes wrong, and to keep the records tax law requires. Your email address stays with Paddle; we see it only if you write to us. Paddle's own privacy policy governs what they hold.

Email you send us

If you write to [email protected] we keep the thread so we can help you and remember the context next time. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not market to you off the back of a support request.

What we never do

  • Sell, rent or share your personal information.
  • Use your dictation to train models — ours or anyone else's.
  • Track you across other websites.

Your rights

Because most of your data lives only on your Mac, you control it directly: deleting the app and its application-support folder removes it. For the order data described above you can ask us for a copy, a correction or a deletion, subject to the records we are legally required to retain. Write to [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the app's release notes. We will not quietly broaden what we collect.
